TRANSITION TOWNS
We are reaching out to individuals and groups interested in creating Transition Towns, or similar efforts, in the region to explore how we can support this effort.  We can help network groups and provide a site for trainings and development of models.

The Transition Movement is a vibrant, grassroots movement that seeks to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis. It represents one of the most promising ways of engaging people in strengthening their communities against the effects of these challenges, resulting in a life that is more abundant, fulfilling, equitable and socially connected.  We believe that we can make the transition to a more sustainable world. Our first, organizing and networking gathering met at Ahimsa Lodge on Saturday, May 21. About 25 people attended representing groups from as far away as Somerville, Massachusetts. We hosted "Climate Summer bikers on July 19, 2011, and are moving forward in making VPT a networking center...

The “Herbie Diaz Memorial Cabin” was used this summer by The Hartford Catholic Worker. The cabin, designed by Voluntown resident Wayne Lachapelle, is located on the Ahimsa side of the property and is the first new building on the property in decades. Thank you to Wayne for supervising its construction. Herbie Diaz attended camp at VPT with the Hartford Catholic Worker for several years before he was murdered in Hartford in 2006.

Bridge Fey a site specific sculpture installation by Nancy MacBride. This sculpture was installed for the VPT Art Walk in October 2010. Leave the Fey a flower, leaf, acorn or other natural object as you pass by her on the trail between the farmhouse and Ahimsa.

This mural on "The Danbury" was painted by Jackie Allen-Docout and the children of Hartford Catholic Worker's summer program at VPT.
